Overview

We are seeking an experienced Contracts & Compliance Surveyor to join our team in the passive fire protection industry. The role is a unique blend of contract management and on-site surveying, ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations and contractual obligations. You will oversee the entire lifecycle of passive fire protection projects, from initial surveys and assessments to the management of contracts and ensuring that all installations meet industry standards and legal requirements.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of passive fire protection systems, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage contracts effectively while ensuring regulatory compliance.

Operations Manager

Qualifications / Work Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in contract management and surveying, ideally within the passive fire protection or construction industries.

  • Strong knowledge of passive fire protection systems, including fire doors, fire-stopping, and fire-resistant materials.

  • Certifications in passive fire protection (e.g., from the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or the Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP)) are highly desirable.

  • Relevant qualifications in construction, surveying, and/or fire safety (e.g., NVQ, HNC, or equivalent).

  • Familiarity with relevant fire safety standards and regulations (e.g., BS 476, EN 1366, Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005).

Required Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent contract management skills, including negotiation, budgeting, and risk management.

  • Strong surveying skills, with an eye for detail and the ability to identify potential compliance issues.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and fire safety regulations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, detailed reports and communicate effectively with clients.

  • Proficient in the use of surveying software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Key Responsibilities

Contract Management

  • Oversee and manage passive fire protection contracts from initiation to completion.

  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure all project deliverables meet contractual terms.

  • Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts with suppliers and clients, ensuring all terms align with company objectives and legal requirements.

  • Manage project, timelines, and resources to ensure efficient project delivery.

  • Provide regular progress reports to senior management and clients.

Compliance & Surveying

  • Conduct on-site surveys to assess the condition and compliance of existing passive fire protection systems, including fire doors, fire-stopping, and compartmentation.

  • Prepare detailed reports outlining survey findings, including recommendations for remedial work and compliance issues.

  • Ensure all installations meet relevant fire safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., British Standards, Building Regulations, etc.).

  • Verify that work carried out by subcontractors and internal teams adheres to contractual and regulatory obligations.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of quality assurance processes and documentation to ensure compliance with fire safety standards.

Client & Stakeholder Communication:

  • Act as the main point of contact for clients regarding contract status, project progress, and compliance matters.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure effective project execution.

  • Provide technical advice and guidance to clients on fire safety compliance and best practices for passive fire protection systems.

Health & Safety

In accordance with the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work (Guernsey) Regulations, you must take reasonable care not to endanger yourself or other persons whilst at work. 

In addition, you must fully co-operate with the Company to enable it to comply with its legal duties. You are required to work to the conditions which are clearly laid-out in the Firesafe, ‘Health & Safety Policy’ document ‘Issue No. 01’ (and any future revisions).
