What is PFP

Passive Fire Protection is the collective term for the fire resisting elements built into the structure and fabric of a building to contain fire and smoke, restrict their spread and maintain compartmentation for a defined period, thereby protecting escape routes, preserving structural stability and providing occupants with sufficient time to evacuate safely.

Unlike active fire protection systems, which rely on activation or power, passive fire protection is built into the structure and functions automatically in the event of fire. It provides critical time for safe evacuation, limits fire and smoke spread, reduces property damage and supports Fire and Rescue Service intervention.
