Firesafe Welcomes Industry Leadership Changes Across the Fire Safety Sector

At Firesafe, we recognise the importance of strong leadership, technical expertise, and industry collaboration in continuing to raise standards across passive fire protection and fire safety.

Recent leadership changes announced by both BAFE (British Approvals for Fire Equipment) and the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) highlight the sector’s ongoing focus on strengthening standards, competency, and regulatory guidance across the UK fire industry.

BAFE has confirmed the appointment of several experienced industry professionals into key leadership positions, including former Fire Minister and ex-London Fire Brigade firefighter Jim Fitzpatrick as Chair of BAFE Holdings. Howard Passey, formerly Deputy Managing Director at the Fire Protection Association, has also been appointed Chair of BAFE Limited, bringing over 30 years of technical fire safety experience to the role.

In addition, Douglas Barnett has been appointed Chair of FireQual, BAFE’s awarding organisation, helping ensure continuity and leadership across competency and training standards within the sector.

Alongside the BAFE announcements, the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) has appointed Paul Adams as its new Chief Executive Officer. Adams brings extensive experience leading professional and membership organisations and will help guide the IFE through what has been described as a “pivotal time for fire safety globally.”

These appointments come at an important time for the industry, as fire safety organisations continue responding to evolving legislation, increasing compliance requirements, and a growing emphasis on competency, traceability, and best practice throughout the built environment.

At Firesafe, we welcome continued investment in leadership and professional standards across the sector. Organisations such as BAFE and the IFE play a vital role in supporting the future of fire safety, helping businesses and professionals maintain high standards of compliance, technical knowledge, and accountability.

As Guernsey’s leading Passive Fire Protection specialist, Firesafe remains committed to delivering high-quality fire protection solutions supported by ongoing professional development, compliance, and industry best practice.
