Overview

The Passive Fire Surveyor is responsible for undertaking detailed inspections and surveys of passive fire protection measures within existing buildings and new developments. The role focuses on assessing compliance with approved documentation, fire strategies, British Standards and third party certification requirements, and providing clear, technically robust reporting to support remediation and compliance.

The position requires a strong understanding of compartmentation, fire stopping, fire doors, cavity barriers and structural fire protection systems, together with the ability to interpret fire test evidence and assess installation quality against relevant standards.

Qualifications / Work Experience

  • Evidence of experience in a Passive Fire Protection surveyor, inspector or supervisory role.
  • Hold or be working towards professional qualifications with the Institution of Fire Engineers, ASFP or equivalent recognised body.
  • Relevant technical qualification in passive fire protection, fire door inspection or fire risk assessment.
  • Demonstrable experience within the fire safety sector, including inspection of compartmentation and fire resisting elements.

Key Responsibilities

Survey Planning and Execution

  • Plan and undertake passive fire protection surveys across a range of building types.
  • Inspect fire stopping, fire doors, cavity barriers and associated compartmentation elements to assess compliance with fire strategies, British Standards and third party certification requirements.
  • Review drawings, specifications and fire strategy information to verify alignment between design intent and site conditions.

Reporting and Technical Advice

  • Produce detailed survey reports including photographic evidence, marked up drawings and prioritised remedial recommendations.
  • Clearly identify non compliant installations and provide proportionate, compliant solutions aligned with relevant test evidence and certification scope.
  • Provide technical guidance to clients and project teams regarding remedial works and compliance requirements.

Client Engagement

  • Act as a professional point of contact during survey activities.
  • Manage client expectations and provide clear explanations of findings and recommended actions.
  • Maintain high levels of client confidence through accurate, impartial and technically robust reporting.

Quality and Compliance

  • Ensure surveys are undertaken in accordance with company procedures and recognised industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate records in line with regulatory expectations and information management requirements.

Health and Safety

In accordance with the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work (Guernsey) Regulations, you must take reasonable care not to endanger yourself or other persons whilst at work.

In addition, you must fully co-operate with the Company to enable it to comply with its legal duties. You are required to work to the conditions which are clearly laid-out in the Firesafe, ‘Health & Safety Policy’ document ‘Issue No. 01’ (and any future revisions).
